Inna De Yard (meaning “in the yard” in Jamaican patois) is back with a brand-new rendition of rocksteady standard “Down the Street” by Keith and Tex. The tune was originally recorded for Derrick Harriott in 1968, and in its ‘Inna De Yard’ version, it features piano by Franklyn ‘Bubbler’ Waul, guitar by Dwight Pinkney, and brass arrangements by Stepper.
The Inna De Yard collective, which was launched in the 2000s by French label Makasound , pays homage to the informal jam sessions that gave birth to reggae in the communal outdoor spaces of Kingston, with participation from legendary musicians such as Ken Boothe, Horace Andy, Winston McAnuff, Kiddus I and Linval Thompson.
The next album of the project, Family Affair, is set for release in June 2023.
