Daily Discovery: Fat Freddy’s Drop – Slo Mo

Fat Freddy’s Drop return with their latest single, “Slo Mo,” the title track from their new album. The music video, filmed at Dreamland in Margate, UK, complements the track’s smooth soul-funk vibe and features sultry vocals from Aotearoa soul singer Louis Baker. The release coincides with the start of the band’s EU/UK Slo Mo tour on the 13th of November in Amsterdam, with Baker joining as the support act.

Slo Mo captures the band’s signature blend of soul-infused, Afro-inspired rhythms, which Freddy’s beatmaker Fitchie describes as “an exploration of Black music from Polynesia.” The album indeed offers a diverse range of sounds, including the reworked “Avengers”, the bass-driven “Getting Late”, and the synth-laden “I Don’t Want To See You.” Saxophonist Chopper Reeds calls it their “most authentic studio representation yet of a Freddy’s live show,” blending dub, soul, and subtle electronic textures.
