Hamburg-based Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek performed “Cool Hand” live at New York’s Diamond Mine Studio, famed for its vintage equipment and analog sound. Blending Anatolian folk, psychedelia, and soul, the track highlights Derya’s expressive vocals and saz playing, backed by the band’s captivating groove. This performance coincides with the conclusion of their first U.S. tour, and their next album, produced by Leon Michels (member of El Michels Affair), is set for release in spring 2025.
Recently signed to Big Crown Records, the band, with members from Turkey, Germany, France, and South Africa, released “Cool Hand” and its B-side “Yakamoz” as a 7” record.
“Cool Hand” explores unrequited love with poetic lyrics and bright, uplifting music, offering a glimpse of the band’s dynamic sound, which merges Turkish roots with psychedelia, soul, and pop.
