Daily Discovery: Biomigrant – La Montaña

Biomigrant‘s live rendition of “La Montaña” was captured at La Jicarita, an ecological sanctuary located in the lush cloud forests of Coatepec, in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. This venue is renowned for its dedication to environmental education and promoting artistic expression, themes that are woven into Biomigrant’s music, blending the narratives of nature and human experience.

The track, a highlight of the fresh from the oven album Aguaceros y Sequías, fuses electronic downtempo beats, with elements of traditional Latin American music, effectively depicting the interaction between environmental forces and personal transformation. “La Montaña” is particularly evocative, featuring the melancholic tones of Colombian gaitas that enhance the song’s reflective nature. The lyrics confront humanity’s futile efforts to dominate the natural world, illustrated through the metaphor of a mountain gradually eroding—a symbol for both the fragile ecosystem and outdated societal frameworks.

Michael Alfred Wagner, the creative force behind Biomigrant, is an American producer and multi-instrumentalist whose musical journey was sparked by a transformative bicycle trip across Central America. Ultimately settling in Colombia, he deeply engaged with the region’s rich musical traditions.

Aguaceros y Sequías, showcases a deeper, more reflective phase of his musical evolution. Shaped by the contrasts between the rugged mountains encircling Bogotá and the dense cloud forests of Veracruz, the album melds the tones of the silver flute, trumpet, and traditional Colombian gaitas with the pulsating rhythms of electronic music.  It enriches this mix with Afro-Colombian rhythms and incorporates elements of house music, cumbia, and afrobeats, creating a dynamic narrative of how landscapes influence our inner lives.
