Iranian musician Araz Salek has just released ‘Âshenâ’, the second single from his forthcoming album Peripheries of Nahawand, set for release on the 11th of April via Worlds Within Worlds.
Originally composed by Turkish musician Vecdi Seyhun (1915–1984), the piece is presented here with new Farsi lyrics written by Salek himself, performed evocatively by the Iranian vocalist Asareh Shekarchi, known for her nuanced interpretations of Persian traditional song. Renowned Turkish musician Derya Türkan, celebrated internationally for his sensitive mastery of the kemençe, contributes an expressive and refined solo. Efrén López Sanz, a versatile multi-instrumentalist and composer from Spain with deep expertise in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern traditions, arranged the track and performed fretless guitar, oğur sazı, and bendir. The line-up is completed by Pedram Khavarzamini, an acclaimed Iranian percussionist widely recognised for his virtuosic and dynamic approach to the tombak, and Salek himself on the tar, demonstrating his skill and sensitivity in blending Iranian classical forms with broader modal traditions.
Peripheries of Nahawand is available for pre-order on Bandcamp.
