47SOUL, the London-based Palestinian-Jordanian collective and pioneers of shamstep, have premiered their new single, “Ghost Town.” Written post-October 7th and steeped in 76 years of Palestinian resistance, the track merges electro-dabke beats with charged lyrics about displacement, state violence, and ongoing systemic oppression. Metaphors like “ghost limbs” evoke fractured identity and resilience, while nods to Indigenous struggles frame liberation as a global fight.
Directed by Jerusalem-born Michel Zananiri and starring Jenin-raised Mohtaz Malhis, the London-set video follows a lone Palestinian moving through deserted streets before merging into mass pro-Palestine protests. The stark contrast between isolation and collective defiance highlights the shifting role of London; once an architect of Palestinian displacement (Balfour Declaration), now a key hub for activism and solidarity. Underground corridors, dim alleys, and archival protest footage reinforce the city’s layered history, connecting past oppression to present resistance.
Beyond the release, 47SOUL will headline a fundraising concert on the 29th of April at Scala, London, with all proceeds going to the Ghassan Abu Sitta Children’s Fund, coinciding with the launch of Dualism Pt.1, their new EP. Their upcoming performances also include Cairo on Friday, 21st February, WOMADelaide (7th-10th March) and Womad Aotearoa in New Zealand (14th-16th March).
