WOMEX is back in Tampere this October, six years after Finland last flung open its sauna doors and proved that music and hot steam mix surprisingly well. From 22 to 26 October, the “happiest country in the world” will host more than 2,500 delegates and over 250 artists from around 90 nations — all squeezed between lakes, early sunsets, and 80th-birthday parties for the Moomins.
The line-up is once again in the hands of the 7 Samurai, the international jury whose selections set the pace for the WOMEX stages. Their choices are where our Musical Road to WOMEX begins.
Each stop on the Road features a Q&A with one of this year’s showcase artists alongside a playlist they’ve put together exclusively for Rhythm Passport. It’s a way to hear them in their own words while also dipping into the music that inspires them: part backstage pass, part mixtape, and the best way to warm up for Tampere’s long October nights.
And if the weather feels brisk, don’t worry: the shows will be hot, the crowds lively, and the saunas waiting.
