Saint Levant takes “Wazira / وزيرة” from studio recording to the Roman Theatre stage at the 59th Carthage International Festival in Tunis in August and captured in an official live video.
Born Marwan Abdelhamid in Jerusalem, with Palestinian, Algerian, French and Serbian family roots, he was raised in Gaza and later Amman before establishing himself across Amman, Los Angeles and wider touring circuits. His trilingual pop and hip-hop project switches between Arabic, English and French, often within individual tracks.
“Wazira / وزيرة” was first released in January as a single before appearing on the Love Letters / رسائل حب tracklist. The title translates as “female minister” or high ranking official in Arabic and frames a woman who holds significant emotional authority in the narrator’s life. The song focuses on intense attachment and the expectation of her return, tying love to distance and exile so that the narrative revolves around waiting for reunion. The production sits in trap based Arab pop, shifting between sung passages and tightly phrased rap, with Saint Levant performing in Arabic throughout.
At Carthage he brought Khalti Mabrouka on stage, a Tunisian domestic worker closely connected to his family who refers to him as her son. Her appearance grounded the song’s themes of distance and return in a real relationship whilst the crowd participated in call-and-response throughout the performance. The song’s broader themes of exile and return connect to Saint Levant’s album Deira, named after his family’s hotel in Gaza, and the performance took place inside a festival programme explicitly framed around Palestinian solidarity. His 2025 shows have consolidated him as a leading voice in diasporic Palestinian pop-rap, addressing homeland and displacement across his catalogue.
