Hugo, also known as El Geólogo, is a geologist by training and a musician by passion. He was born in Mexico and raised in Peru, environments rich with cultural and musical diversity that deeply influence his work.
His debut EP, Selva Salvada, releasing on the 7th of July, showcases his fusion of traditional and modern sounds. The standout single, “Cuerdas pa’ti,” exemplifies this blend, featuring classic cumbia instruments such as congas and timbales paired with the rhythmic strumming of a vihuela. This track creates a unique bolero-cumbia that resonates with both nostalgic and contemporary tones, embodying El Geólogo’s commitment to innovating within the genre while staying true to his roots.
