Celebrate the spirit of Hackney Carnival in the Canalside venues of Hackney Wick.
We welcome a band of Afro Latin Caribbean All Stars on Sep 17! They curate a special jam around Afro Carnival rhythms from Venezuela, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic/Haiti with Calypso, Conga, Plena, Rara and Zouk improvisations. A unique opportunity to enjoy Latin Caribbean carnival music.
Featuring Williams Cumberbache, Omar Puente Cuba, Omar Rios Nicaragua, Nestor Pedral Venezuela, Adolfredo Pulido Venezuela, amongst others
There will be a talk and performance at 11am by Venezuelan master drummer, Williams Cumberbache, that will be tracing the connection between traditional music from Latin America, The Carribean & Africa, in particular, Congo.
We’ll have a DJ spinning the finest carnival rhythms throughout the day.
This event is part of this year’s Hackney Carnival Roadshow, a summer-long programme of free-to-access workshops, presentations and pop-ups, organised by carnival and community groups, schools and youth, to demonstrate the borough’s talents during carnival season.
This event will feature Hackney Carnival’s finest groups across 5 Hackney Wick venues: Hackney Bridge, Grow, Yard Theatre, Colour Factory and Crate Brewery.
